Services Offered
Psychotherapy can mean many things to many people. I focus on evidence-based practice (also sometimes called empirically-supported therapies), which means that you are receiving treatments that have evidence behind them, because they help others with similar problems. Two of the most-commonly used practices I’ll use are CBT and ACT, described briefly below.
I offer both in-person therapy and teletherapy—i.e., video calls. I am happy to use one of a number of video platforms that work best for you. I will continue to provide teletherapy services long-term. If you are located in the Hudson Valley, we can discuss in-person sessions. I am happy to wear masks with patients who would prefer to do so.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a short-term therapy that is supported by scientific research. We’ll talk about which types of treatments are best for you during your first sessions. CBT is focused on symptoms and problems—what you’re currently dealing with. This means that our work together will be focused on finding strategies that you can use to deal with the difficulties that are getting in your way. We will set a goal together and identify which aspects of CBT will be most helpful to you. You may want to read about what to expect from CBT therapy.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a variant of CBT that focuses on coming to understand and work with your current emotions, identifying ways in which you may be stuck in your thoughts, and helping you to move forward in your life. ACT may be particularly helpful in dealing with stressful life situations. It may also involve use of mindfulness strategies.
Specializations
I specialize in work with depression, and difficulties relating to trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and anxiety. I also have experience working with queer, questioning, and trans or GNC clients. I have a great deal of experience working with individuals who are not U.S. citizens; I also will provide therapy in Spanish in special cases. You can also read more about my commitment to to inclusivity.
Fees
I will speak with you on the phone or over video to discuss how I can help you. Following a brief conversation, we will schedule an initial session, which will likely last 60 or more minutes. Subsequent treatment sessions are usually 55 minutes. Please contact me for more information on fees.
For the most part, my services are private pay, although you should check with me regarding insurance. In most cases, your insurance company will consider me an out-of-network provider. If you have out-of-network coverage, you will likely be able to receive full or partial reimbursement for our sessions by submitting your bill to your insurance company. The amount covered will depend on the insurance plan.
If you are unsure about your coverage, I recommend calling your insurance company directly. You may ask specifically about how reimbursements work for out-of-network coverage, whether you have a deductible, whether you need a pre-authorization, and what you need to do to file for reimbursement.
